Welcome to Mercer Super

On 1 April 2023, your clients who were members of BT Super were transferred to Mercer Super via a Successor Fund Transfer process. Following this successful transfer, Mercer Super now has the privilege of looking after the retirement savings of more than 950,0001 Australians.

Employer-sponsored advisers

If you are an Adviser or Dealer Group that was assigned servicing rights to an employer-sponsored plan in BT, and you would like to continue that arrangement as the Servicing Planner after the transfer to Mercer Super, please email us.

How do I access my clients’ new Mercer Super accounts?

Authorities on your clients’ accounts did not transfer over to Mercer Super. You will need to complete a Third Party Authority form prior to accessing client information.
 

Does Mercer Super support member advice fees?

Yes. Fees can be upfront or fixed term. You will need to complete either a new super or pension Advice Fee Deduction form, prior to any fees being deducted.

  • How do I access my clients’ new Mercer Super accounts?

    Authorities on your clients’ accounts did not transfer over to Mercer Super. You will need to complete a Third Party Authority form, prior to accessing any client information.

    Five business days after submitting the relevant form, you can call Mercer Super on 1800 682 525, Monday to Friday, 8am – 7pm (AEST/AEDT) to obtain your client’s account information / adviser summary. 

  • How do I know which of my clients were transferred?

    Your clients who were members of BT Super, BT Super for Life and BT Super for Life – Westpac Group Plan all had their accounts transferred to Mercer Super.

  • What communications will clients receive about the transfer?

    Your clients who are members of BT Super, BT Super for Life and BT Super for Life – Westpac Group Plan will have received a Significant Event Notice from BT Super on or about 30 January 2023 outlining all the details about changes to their account.

    A Welcome Letter from Mercer Super will also be sent to those BT Super members as part of the transfer process.

  • Will clients still be able to access their account online?

    As part of the transfer process instructions and login details will be provided to members in their Mercer Super Welcome Letter.

    From 18 April 2023, your clients will be able to access their super account through the Mercer Super secure Member Online portal.

  • Can I transact or update details on behalf of clients?

    Advisers are not able to directly transact on members’ accounts or update account details..

    Relevant forms, completed and signed by the client, will need to be lodged.

  • What happened to Beneficiary Nominations after the transfer?

    All Beneficiary Nominations that were in place at the date of transfer were transferred to Mercer Super. 

  • Did my clients' investments change after transfer?

    As part of the transfer, your clients’ super balance was invested in the Mercer Super investment option(s) most closely aligned with the BT Super investment option(s) in place at the date of transfer. 

  • Did insurance arrangements change after the transfer?

    If your client held, or was entitled to, insurance cover at the transfer date, this insurance cover continued with Mercer Super.

    If they had Death, Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) and/or Salary Continuance Insurance (SCI) cover in place at the date of transfer, they continue to have generally the same type of cover in Mercer Super with the same terms and conditions. The amount and cost of any insurance cover held in Mercer Super did not change as a result of the transfer.

  • When will pension payments commence after the transfer?

    The transfer to Mercer SmartRetirement Income will not initially change the amount of a client’s pension payments.  However, the minimum and maximum pension amount will be re-calculated and may change a client’s June 2023 pension payment, to ensure they receive the required amount for the financial year. The frequency of a client’s pension payments may also change.

    All pension payments made following the transfer will be made on or around the 15th of the applicable month, if that is a business day. If not, the payment will be made the following business day.
